Search for a Chips.gg promo code and you will find plenty of sites offering one. What they hand you is one of three things: a referral code, a bonus code or a deposit bonus code. Each does a different job, and each goes in a different place.
One naming note: on Chips.gg, Promotions are races and leaderboards. You join those from the Promotions page, no code needed. See the different promotions.
Referral code: links your account to a creator
A referral code ties your account to an affiliate, usually a streamer or a review site. They earn a commission on your play, paid by Chips.gg. It does not come out of your balance and it does not change the games.
At sign-up, type it in the Referral Code field, or open a referral link (chips.gg/?r=CODE) and the field fills itself.

After that it is effectively permanent. Switching later is limited: affiliate code change policy.
Sites that advertise an exclusive Chips.gg code are usually affiliates, and this is how they get paid. That is fine. Just pick a creator you actually want to back, because you are choosing for the life of the account.
Bonus code: a one-time reward
A bonus code is redeemed once for a prize: a cash bonus, a reload, minigame tickets or a perk boost. Codes from Chips.gg have a set number of claims and an expiry date. Players and streamers can also create codes for their communities, and those hold cash only. More in what are bonus codes.

"No claims remaining" means the code ran out. "Invalid code" means it does not exist, you already used it, or a space came along with the paste.

Deposit bonus code: unlocks a deposit match
A deposit bonus code attaches a deposit bonus offer to your account. Enter it on the Rewards page and the offer, with its terms, shows on screen before anything is activated. Then click Activate Bonus and make your deposit. Step by step: how to claim a deposit bonus code.

40× wagering on deposit plus bonus (how wagering is calculated)
$5 maximum bet while the bonus is active. A bigger bet voids it (maximum bet)
Eligible slots only, tagged #db. Originals, live dealer and table games do not count (eligible games)
Terms can change from one promotion to the next. The offer screen is the source of truth, so read it before you click Activate.
Do the math before you activate
Take a $100 deposit:
Bonus: $200 (200% of $100)
Locked balance: $300
Wagering required: $300 × 40 = $12,000
Now the edge. A slot that pays back 96% (a common figure for slots) keeps about $480 of every $12,000 wagered, on average. That is more than the $300 you start with. So a deposit bonus only finishes with money left when your session runs better than average. It gives you a bigger balance to play with. It is not free money.
Your deposit is locked together with the bonus until the wager is complete, and cancelling partway forfeits both: cancelling a deposit bonus. If you would rather keep your deposit withdrawable, play without the bonus.
Keep your account safe
Every code goes in on chips.gg itself: the sign-up form, Settings or the Rewards page. A real code never needs your password, a download, or a deposit to an address someone sends you. If a site or a DM asks for any of those, it is not us. Before you log in, check that the address bar says chips.gg.
